VHT, NVRD, BKN and Stichting UPV Textiel sign partnership agreement for 2025
16th January 2025 – The umbrella organisations VHT, NVRD, BKN and Stichting UPV Textiel have agreed on a framework for 2025 that supports the transition towards a valuable, circular textile chain. Each party contributes its specific expertise within the textile chain: the foundation represents more than 900 importers and producers placing textiles on the Dutch market, while the umbrella organisations – with their nationwide textile management infrastructure – form the essential link to ensure discarded textiles are reused or recycled into new raw materials. The agreement specifies how the partnership will be implemented in practice and the fees that have been established.
Advancing circularity together
This strategic partnership focuses on promoting innovation and sustainability throughout the chain. It also recognises the role of consumers in the circular textile chain. All parties are jointly responsible for engaging consumers through broad communication campaigns, raising awareness of their role, and supporting sustainable choices. The partnership also remains open to collaboration with other stakeholders to represent the entire market.
Circular textile chain
The established textile management structure enables reuse and fibre-to-fibre recycling, supporting the development of a circular textile chain. Benefits include guarantee fees for service providers who clean and/or sort textiles and are recognised by Stichting UPV Textiel. The structure also ensures proper recognition of service providers and guarantees transparency in textile processing through monitoring and oversight. The fee system provides service providers with a stable framework and financial support for achieving the EPR objectives. Local authorities gain valuable insights into the volume of textiles collected in their area and how these materials are managed.
